Creepies earns the twenty-second spot because David and Anna Posey have answered the question of what a serious kitchen does with a casual format — and the answer is better than expected.
Next door to their starred Elske on Randolph Street, chefs David and Anna Posey opened Creepies in late 2025 as something freer and more immediate: stone and wood walls, checkered tile floors, banquettes, art on every surface, and a menu organized around French bistro logic filtered through the Upper Midwest. Parisian gnocchi in gruyère cream with crispy ham and a drizzle of egg yolk; steamed halibut with sauce homard and dumplings. The combinations read as odd on paper and as correct on the plate.
Chicago Magazine named it the city's most exciting place to eat when it opened, which is the kind of declaration that usually invites correction but in this case is hard to argue with. Creepies is exactly the restaurant this block needed — serious enough to satisfy the Elske regulars and casual enough to pull in the neighborhood on a Tuesday.
